Project Name
Projection Mapping Project | RIT Fall 2022 Semester
During the Fall 2022 semester at Rochester Institute of Technology, my NMD Motion Graphics class was assigned a motion graphics piece that went beyond a typical animated motion graphics piece, such as a title sequence for an imaginary TV show or a 3D rendered product design. Most of my classmates went in either of these two directions, but I decided to try something else. Inspired by the Van Gough exhibit that traveled throughout the US this past year I decided to try my hand at projection mapping. Projection Mapping within this context is art that is often animated then projected onto a specified surface using a projector.
Pitch

Style Test from location

For this project I wanted to go big. I wanted to create something that both has some personal meaning and that others could enjoy. My designated projection space became the entrance to the New Media lab at RIT, and my subject matter inspired by creative writing pieces I had been sent by a friend.
My idea was to create 3 animated landscapes to be projected onto the doors and either wall of the entrance to the NMD lab. The landscapes were to be visible for about 30 seconds to a minute each with a song playing over it for ambiance.
